Barrington Stage Co To Celebrate John Rando At BSC/NYC Benefit; Elizabeth Stanley, Scarlett Strallen, and More to Perform

Barrington Stage Company (BSC), the award-winning theatre in Downtown Pittsfield, MA, under the leadership of Artistic Director Julianne Boyd, will host its annual New York City Benefit, BSC/NYC, on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, to honor director and BSC Associate Artist John Rando with the William Finn Award for Innovation and Excellence in Musical Theatre. This one-night only cabaret will take place at the Friars Club (57 East 55th Street).

Barrington Stage celebrates John Rando for his extraordinary talent and his contributions to BSC. John has directed two of the most popular musicals in BSC history, The Pirates of Penzance and On the Town, which transferred to Broadway and received four Tony Award nominations, including Best Director. At BSC, John also directed The Royal Family of Broadway and Guys and Dolls and on Broadway, he won a Tony Award for his direction of Urinetown, The Musical.

"I am deeply humbled and grateful to the Barrington Stage Company to be selected as the 2018 honoree of the William Finn Award for Innovation and Excellence in Musical Theatre," said honoree John Rando. "Between Barrington Stage's commitment to developing new musical works, as manifest with its New Work Initiative, and its unparalleled practice of brilliantly reviving the classics of the musical theater, BSC provides a wonderful home to writers, composers, performers and directors alike. And frankly, I am simply honored to be a member of the BSC family."

The Araca Group will serve as Honorary Chairs of the event. The evening will begin at 6:00pm with a cocktail reception followed by a 7:30pm cabaret hosted by Tony Award winners Roger Bart (Broadway's You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown) and Harriet Harris (BSC's The Royal Family of Broadway, Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie) and featuring performances and tributes by some of Broadway and Barrington's most beloved stars, including Clyde Alves (BSC & Broadway's On the Town), Arnie Burton (BSC's The Royal Family of Broadway, Broadway's Machinal), Janet Dacal (Paper Mill Playhouse's The Sting), William Finn (BSC's The Royal Family of Broadway, BSC & Broadway's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), David Garrison (BSC's The Pirates of Penzance, Broadway's The Visit), David Ives (Lives of the Saints), Daniel Marcus (Broadway's Urinetown), Jeff McCarthy (BSC's Kunstler, Broadway's Urinetown), Jill Paice (The New Group's Jerry Springer: The Opera), Elizabeth Stanley (BSC & Broadway's On the Town), Scarlett Strallen (BSC's The Pirates of Penzance, Broadway's A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Will Swenson (BSC's The Pirates of Penzance & The Royal Family of Broadway, Broadway's Waitress) and more. The evening will feature musical direction by BSC Associate Artist Darren R. Cohen (BSC's West Side Story & The Pirates of Penzance).
