Ballet Performs Homage to Warhol at Frist Exhibit 7/8

To celebrate the opening of the exhibit Warhol Live: Music and Dance in Andy Warhol's Work at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville Ballet will perform a short ballet inspired by Warhol's aesthetic and artistic style.

Original choreography by Nashville Ballet Artistic Director & CEO Paul Vasterling and Nashville Ballet company dancer Christopher Stuart will incorporate daily movements into a dance, mimicking Warhol's style of art that features everyday objects.

The performance will be set to popular music from the same era as Warhol's famous pop art and screen prints.

When: Friday, July 8, 2011
5:30 p.m.

Where: The Frist Center for the Visual Arts - Atrium inside the Gallery

Nashville, Tenn.

Who: The performance is free for all patrons of the Frist.

Why: Andy Warhol's passion for dance was evident in his art and the company he kept.

Before he was the pioneer of pop art, he created illustrations for Dance Magazine, the preeminent publication of the dance world. His own art also He also created his own art featuring dance, such as his screen print Ballet Slippers.

After achieving more recognition, he spent his time with such notable dancers and choreographers as Merce Cunningham, Rudolf Nureyev and Martha Graham.
