Review: GET RREEL, VAULT Festival

After years of world-wide success, girlband Get RREEL are breaking up. Ireland's pride and joy are hosting one last intimate concert to explain to their most loyal fans why they've taken this decision.

Presented by Irish theatre company Sunday's Child - My Name Is Saoirse, Overshadowed - Get RREEL comes at the audience in a flurry of Irishness and Spice Girls-ness. Eva O'Connor, Rachel Ní Bhraonaín, and Elspeth McKeever bring the party to VAULT Festival.

The trio entertains the crowd with direct humour and unrestraint candour. The show is choreographically striking: McKeever and Robyn Byrne build routines that mould into the narrative and interweave with each other. However, even though they look terrific these feel too long for a running time that doesn't reach the hour.

O'Connor proves herself an intriguing writer once again, although the more somber reflections are slightly drowned out by the hyper mood of the piece. Marianne Nightingale's tinsel-topped set makes for an excellent background for Rosa Bowden's direction.

All in all, Get RREEL is fun and enjoyable, filled with tonnes of Irish banter and many sleek dance interludes. Their tongue-in-cheek attitude beguiles and their tale of fame, alcohol, and friendship makes for a pleasant night out.
