BWW Flashback: DISASTER! Discos Off Broadway Today

The new musical comedy DISASTER! plays its final performance today, Sunday, May 8, 2016 on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre, after playing 32 preview and 72 regular performances. In honor of its run on the Great White Way, BroadwayWorld takes a look back at its journey on stage!

Directed by Jack Plotnick with a book by three-time Emmy Award nominee and Grammy Award nominee Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, DISASTER!'s closing company includes Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler (Xanadu), three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin (The Addams Family), Tony Award nominee Adam Pascal (Rent), Tony Award winner Faith Prince (Guys & Dolls), Tony Award nominee Will Swenson (Hair) (who took over for star Roger Bart last month,) Drama Desk Award winner Rachel York (Victor/Victoria), three-time Emmy Award nominee and Grammy Award nominee Seth Rudetsky (SiriusXM's "Seth's Big Fat Broadway"), 2016 Tony and Drama League Award nominee Jennifer Simard (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Max Crumm (Grease), 2016 Drama Desk Award nominee Baylee Littrell and Lacretta Nicole, and ensemble members Paul Castree, Casey Garvin, Travis Kent, Alyse Alan Louis, Maggie McDowell, Olivia Phillip, Catherine Ricafort and Brandon Rubendall.

Earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and rampant wildlife can't stop an outrageous cast of characters from dancing, gambling and singing the night away aboard New York's first floating casino and discothèque. DISASTER! features some of the most memorable pop, rock and disco hits of the 1970s, including "Hot Stuff," "I Am Woman," "Knock On Wood," "Daybreak" and more.

DISASTER! first debuted at New York's Triad Theatre on January 22, 2012, and ran through March 25, 2012. The critically-acclaimed musical comedy moved Off-Broadway to St. Luke's Theatre, where it played from October 14, 2013 through April 11, 2014, topping many "Best of 2013" lists include The Daily News' "Theater's 10 Best of 2013" and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's Entertainment Weekly "Must List." In 2015, it was announced that DISASTER! would pack it up and take on Broadway.
