Getting away can be good for the soul. My dear friend, Michelle Black, and I hopped in a car last week and ventured down to Asheville, North Carolina to spend a couple of nights camping in the mountains. We made our trip with the intent of planning a simple workshop back home in Ohio and, instead, returned with boundless inspiration and the bones of an incredible retreat to help share some of the same discoveries we've made in our own journeys.

What emerged from the mountains, much like a mist rising towards the sky, is an experience we're calling Hush. The weekend of June 21st, we'll retrace our steps, traveling along with eight other people to share our experiences and discuss how/when to face our fears, break out of self-inflicted prisons and nurture ourselves, no matter how far along we are in each of our own paths.

These are a few of the images I created on our trip. To me, they represent the incredible mysteries that linger in the dark. When I felt I was looking into blackness, my camera could see through the pitch of night and uncovered a beautiful world; one that wasn't nearly as intimidating as I had imagined while Michelle and I were wandering alone down a trail through the dark.

If you'd like to join us this summer, simply send me an e-mail for more information: info@atelierofgranville.com This facilitated retreat isn't only for photographers or working artists, but for anyone who would like a few days to peacefully reconnect with yourselves through nature.
