Avarice, presented by Halfway Home Productions, will have its world premiere reading on January 25th at Manhattan Theatre Club Rehearsal Studios (311 West 43rd Street, 8th Floor, Studio 4, between 8th and 9th Avenues). Additional performances are January 26th and January 27th, and shows begin at 7PM.

Written by J. William Bruce and David A. Shenton, Avarice features "a mixture of rock, country, gospel, and R & B music," according to press notes. It concerns "six friends living in New York City in the late 1980's. The story begins six months following graduation as the group of friends struggle with adulthood and their impending future. Over the course of nine months they soon discover that the bond that was formed at eighteen may not be enough to overcome the obstacles they are about to face. Throughout their journey they begin to question many things about not only life but themselves as well." The show will also feature orchestrations by Shenton.

Bruce most recently produced and directed Closer Than Ever at Dillon's Theatre. Since founding Halfway Home Productions in 1994, he has directed and produced The Baker's Wife, Suburbia, Our Town, and Silvery Moon. He makes his début as a composer/lyricist with Avarice.

Shenton, a native of England, graduated with honors from the Royal College of Music in London. He has played piano and violin extensively in his native land and has arranged and orchestrated music for TV, radio and concert venues in Europe, Australia, Japan and the Caribbean. Shenton has composed four other musicals, all of which have had their premières in New York City.
