Author James Purdy Dead at 94

The New York Times is reporting that author James Purdy, whose work included such underground classics such as "Cabot Wright Begins" and "Eustace Chisholm and the Works" died this morning, Friday March 13th, at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. 

The Times reveals Purday was 94 and, after a period of declining health, had recently broken his hip, said his close friend and assistant, John Uecker to the paper.

His novel "Malcolm" was adapted for the stage by Edward Albee in 1966, Purdy's other works for the stage included "The Color of Darkness", a collection of his work for the stage, "Selected Plays of James Purdy," will be published this spring by Ivan R. Dee.
