Auditions for Jean Shepherd's A CHRISTMAS STORY, a comedy based upon the motion picture A CHRISTMAS STORY adapted by Philip Grecian and produced by Broadway Series South in association with Hot Summer Nights General Management by North Carolina Theatre.
SEEKING TO CAST:
ADULTS (ages 30 - 60 in appearance) CHILDREN (ages 6 - 15 in appearance)
All roles available. Non-union contracts. Adults and lead actors will be given a stipend based on part.
AUDITION DATE/PROCEDURES: Sunday, July 25th beginning at 6:00pm. No appointments; sign in begins at 5:00pm.

AUDITION LOCATION: Fletcher Opera Theater at Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, 2 E. South St., Raleigh, NC 27601. Please enter at doors immediately in front of the Fletcher lobby area.

Note: This play is directly based on the beloved movie classic A CHRISTMAS STORY. We recommend viewing the movie for character and style familiarity.
RALPH (male lead age 30 to 50; average height/weight or slightly larger in appearance). Ralphie grown up. Must be a great storyteller with a tremendous presence and deadpan sense of humor. Lovable, good natured curmudgeon. Also plays a larger than life COWBOY, TREE LOT OWNER, DELIVERY MAN, NEIGHBOR.
RALPHIE PARKER - (child lead age 10 to 12 in appearance.) The hero. Imaginative and adveturous boy boy who must battle school bullies and convince his parents to buy him the PERFECT Christmas gift. Knows how to tell a joke.
MOTHER - Ralphie's mother (age 30 to 50 in appearance.) The uber-Mom with eyes in the back of her head. The true head of the house with multitasking skills and a wry sense of humor.
THE OLD MAN - Ralphie's father (age 30 to 60 in appearance.) The "biggest kid" in the show. Good heart buried under a rough exterior. Quirky actor with good sense of humor. Must enjoy being around and working with kids.
RANDY - Ralphie's little brother (age 6 to 8 in appearance.) Smaller than Ralphie; the cuter the better. Can be a bit awkward and offbeat. Admires Ralphie but won't admit it.
MISS SHIELDS - Ralphie's teacher (age 30 to 60 in appearance.) Tough and efficious but caring.
FLICK - Ralphie's friend and classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.) Skinny; has the look of Alfalfa from "Our Gang."
SCHWARTZ - Ralphie's friend and classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.) Slightly larger than Flick, a little tougher. He's the kid who "double dog dates" Flick to stick his tongue to the pole.
ESTHER JANE ALBERRY - a classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.)
HELEN WEATHERS - a classmate (age 10 to 12 in appearance.)
FARKAS - A meanie - the bully (age 13 to 15 in appearance.) There's nothing about him you want to like. He's that kid you always made sure to avoid in school.
EXTRAS - children for classroom and playground scenes.
REHEARSALS/PERFORMANCES: Rehearsals begin Saturday, November 20th at the Kennedy Theatre. Performances are December 7th through December 24th at Fletcher Opera Theater.
