The Art Institute of Chicago's Society for Contemporary Art (SCA) is pleased to host its sixth benefit on Saturday, March 1, 2014. This year's event will be held at CineSpace Film Studios, Chicago's largest film studio space on the Near West Side. All proceeds from this biannual event will provide acquisitions support for the Art Institute of Chicago's Department of Contemporary Art, organizer of such recent internationally acclaimed exhibitions as Steve McQueen and Roy Lichtenstein: A Retrospective.

The 2014 benefit will feature a much-anticipated live and silent auction with works by established and emerging artists such as Tomma Abts, Monika Baer, Matthew Barney, Allen Ruppersberg, and Hiroshi Sugimoto. Priceless experiences-New York Fashion Week with Marc Jacobs, a private in-home concert performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), vacations to exotic locations, and dinners in the homes of some of Chicago's top private art collectors-will also be auctioned to benefit the SCA.

Dirk Denison, one of Chicago's leading architects, and David Salkin, trend-setting textile designer, are co-chairs of this year's benefit, which will feature a transformed CineSpace by virtue of intriguingly designed lounge areas, delectable food, and handcrafted libations. Independent music promoter Joe Shanahan of Metro and Smartbar, along with a litany of other emerging artists, designers, and musicians from Chicago, have offered their talent to create a unique and memorable evening for guests.

The Society for Contemporary Art: The Society for Contemporary Art was founded at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1940 to promote a better understanding of and appreciation for the art of our time. Monthly programs provide members with access to a roster of leading national and international artists, dealers, critics, historians, and curators, as well as visits to distinguished private collections around the world.

Each year, acquisition committee members review a carefully selected group of contemporary works and present them together as an exhibition. SCA members then vote to purchase one or more objects for the museum's permanent collection. The SCA has contributed over 150 works to the permanent collection, including pieces by Carl Andre, Lee Bontecou, Donald Judd, Leon Golub, Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock, Nancy Spero, and Christopher Wool.
