BENJAMIN SWETT: NEW YORK CITY OF TREES will be on view at the Arsenal Gallery in Central Park, March 7 - April 26, 2013. The gallery is open weekdays, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., closed holidays. Entrance is free.

We know that trees improve living conditions in cities by filtering and cooling the air, absorbing excess rainwater, and making neighborhoods more attractive. But little has been said about the importance of trees as keepers of a city's past. In this collection of personal narratives, historical observations, and color photographs, Benjamin Swett focuses on trees with stories to tell, adding a warm and welcome outlook that is unique to the city and its cosmopolitan character. The stories of these trees from all five boroughs-some dating back to the Revolutionary era and before-link the living with the past in an unusual, engaging way.

Arsenal Gallery is located on the Third Floor, Arsenal Building, 830 Fifth Avenue, Central Park at 64th Street in Manhattan. Public transportation: N/R to Fifth Avenue at 60th Street, Southeast corner of Central Park.
