Ars Nova (Jason Eagan, Artistic Director; Jon Steingart and Jenny Wiener Steingart, Executive Producers) announces a call for submissions for ANT FEST 09, a five-week festival of craziness showcasing fresh material from today's most exciting emerging artists.

Ars Nova will be accepting submissions from April 16 through June 8.

Ars Nova is on the prowl for talented performers from all disciplines who see the future of live entertainment and want the chance to show off their skills. If the show can be performed live on stage, Ars Nova is interested. (Almost) anything goes, but curators are particularly interested in edgy, offbeat, charged performances that tell a story, make you laugh, showcase musicians with a vibrant new sound, or blur the boundaries between theater, music and comedy.

Artistic Director Jason Eagan said, "Last year's inaugural ANT FEST brought an incredible influx of new talent into our building. Many of those artists have gone on to become further integrated into the Ars Nova community, where they benefit from the development resources we have to offer. Looking to ANT FEST 09, we're particularly interested in submissions from truly emerging artists yet to establish themselves on the New York scene, as well as ideas and hybrid projects that might only happen at Ars Nova."
The best thirty submissions representing a broad cross-section of live entertainment will be given a night to perform in Ars Nova's intimate, 99-seat theater, and will be a part of artist-driven parties and events throughout the festival.

Interested performers should submit a description of their evening (one page max); a script, CD or DVD if available, and directions to any online material. Application forms and more information are available at www.arsnovanyc.com.
Applications will be accepted beginning April 16 and must be postmarked by June 8. Artists chosen for the festival will be notified by September 8.

As New York's premiere hub for emerging artists and new work, Ars Nova is committed to developing and producing eclectic theatre, comedy and music to feed today's popular culture. To that end, Ars Nova strives to create daring collaborations, meld disciplines and give voice to a new generation of artists. Last season, Ars Nova developed and produced critically acclaimed productions of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's Boom, Liz Flahive's From Up Here (in a co-production with Manhattan Theatre Club), and Nick Jones and Raja Azar's Jollyship the Whiz-Bang. Past productions include Dixie's Tupperware Party, At Least It's Pink, 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, Holy Cross Sucks!, Freestyle Love Supreme and The Wau Wau Sisters. In addition to its featured productions, Ars Nova supports and develops new work from the most promising emerging artists through its alternative comedy series (Tragedy Tomorrow), music series (Uncharted), public play-reading series (Out Loud), developmental residency program (Residency Encores) writer's group (Play Group) and artist-in-residence program. Ars Nova was founded in memory of Gabe Wiener.
