Ann Hampton Callaway and More to Join Alan & Marilyn Bergman Celebration at 92NY

92NY Lyrics & Lyricists 2025/26 season will conclude with Every Kind of Light: The Love and Lyrics of Alan & Marilyn Bergman, celebrating the enduring genius of one of the greatest lyric writing teams of all time. Co-hosted by Grammy winner Billy Stritch and Tony nominee Ann Hampton Callaway — also a featured performer — the show is co-written by Tony nominees Dick Scanlan and Malcolm Gets and a cast of Broadway veterans including Nikki Renée Daniels (Once Upon a Mattress), Brandon Victor Dixon (Tony nominee – Hell’s Kitchen and The Color Purple) and Ali Stroker (Tony winner – Oklahoma). Every Kind of Light performances are on June 6, 7 and 8.

Alan and Marilyn Bergman won four Emmys, three Oscars and two Grammys, were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Songwriters, among numerous other honors. “The Way We Were,” which has been called one of the most recognizable songs in the world, won a Best Original Song Oscar and Song of the Year Grammy, and was a milestone in their long professional relationship with Barbra Streisand. “The Windmills of Your Mind,” written for The Thomas Crown Affair, garnered the pair their first Best Original Song Oscar in 1968 and the song received renewed attention and acclaim last year when the version sung by Mel Tormé was featured prominently in the Severance season 2 finale. And their catalog of more than 500 songs also includes lyrics to such instantly recognizable songs as “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” “It Might Be You” (featured in the film Tootsie), and themes to hit TV shows like Maude and Good Times.

“They created worlds — you're enveloped in a dream world when you sing a Bergman lyric,” comments Ann Hampton Callaway. "Very few writers know how to create something like that. Very few have the intelligence and the soul.”

Dick Scanlan further notes, “they were rigorous craftspeople. Not a word out of place and they had something to say and said it well. They didn’t always choose the flashiest line but the perfect line.”

Every Kind of Light explores Bergman lyrics delving into every aspect of love — first love, rejection, and everything in between — their iconic work for films, songs exemplifying the “Swingin’ 60s,” and a special section spotlighting their collaboration with Barbra Streisand. Co-hosts Callaway and Stritch also share stories from their personal and professional ties to the Bergmans.
