American Museum of Natural History Launches Collection With Etsy Today

The American Museum of Natural History is launching a unique collaboration with Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods, today, March 5. The Museum and Etsy have teamed up on products inspired by the natural world and the Museum's world-class collections, which will be sold in a dedicated section of the Museum's gift shop as well as online.

The Etsy shop in the Museum store will feature a selection of more than 140 items created by 22 Etsy designers sourced through Etsy Wholesale. As part of this collaboration, the Museum hosted a select group of Etsy designers for behind-the-scenes tours in the Museum's collections to inspire seven unique products. This is the first time Etsy has collaborated with any museum in the creation of new products.

The American Museum of Natural History will host a private preview event where participating Etsy designers will discuss their creative process and the techniques involved in crafting these products. Guests will be invited to explore the new assortment in a private first-look experience before the Museum opens.

This assortment includes a sterling silver blue whale pendant from Craft0logy that is based on the iconic installation in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life; hand-painted leather pouches, from Kertis, mirroring an egg in the ornithology collection and a print from the rare book collection; and a pop-up birthday card for all ages from Smidge Co. inspired by everything from the fossil halls to the Rose Center for Earth and Space.

Media will also be invited to attend a special behind-the-scenes tour to see the collections that inspired these exclusive items.
