As just announced, Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award-winner America Ferrera, known across the world as Ugly Betty from the hit TV series of the same name, swaps her trademark braces for fishnets from 7 November for eight weeks only, when she makes her British stage debut as the alluring publicity-seeker Roxie Hart in the smash hit musical CHICAGO.

According to Entertainment Weekly, following her West End run, Ferrera will make her Broadway debut in the revival of the 1984 play, The Miss Firecracker Contest. Rehearsals for the show will begin in March and open next spring.

Ferrera is perhaps best known for playing the lead role in the television comedy series Ugly Betty. She has also starred in Real Women Have Curves, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, its sequel Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and The Dry Land, and had a small role in the skateboard biopic Lords of Dogtown (2005).

In addition, she was the voice of Astrid the Viking in the Dreamworks animated picture How to Train Your Dragon. In December 2005, she appeared in the off-Broadway play Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, directed by Trip Cullman.

Ferrera, who in 2007, was named by Time Magazine as one of "The Most influential People in the World", will make her West End debut in CHICAGO at its new West End home, the Garrick Theatre. Ferrera will help usher in the show's record-breaking 15th year in London when it celebrates its birthday on 18 November.
