Always Love Lucy Theatre Presents Tennessee Williams' OUT CRY Featuring All-South Asian Cast

Always Love Lucy Theatre, a New York Theater company, has announced the premiere production of Tennessee Williams's Out Cry- with a twist: South Asian actors will perform it. Tamasha, a Festival for South Asian Performing Arts, hosts this limited run on September 28th and October 1st.

Christopher Romero Wilson directs this searing and mystifying adaptation of Williams' play about a brother-sister acting duo, who's theatre company abandons them with nothing but a few set pieces and their imaginations. The play explores identity, fear, and consciousness, by delving into the minds of these two outlandish characters. The cast includes Saima Huq and Vishaal Reddy, in the role of Felice and Claire Devoto, respectively.

The production marks an artistic milestone by featuring South Asian actors, in the lead roles of Felice and Claire Devoto, for the first time in New York City. Actor, Vishaal Reddy, commented on this choice, calling it "exciting and rewarding. As minority actors, we are fighting to get seen and rarely get opportunities to tackle such richly, complex material. I jumped at the chance to work on this."

Saima Huq, Artistic Director of Always Love Lucy Theatre, says, "Classic plays are "classics" because they tell universal stories. Human nature is the same around the world and has been since the beginning of time -- the only thing that changes is our technology. That is why Always Love Lucy Theatre (ALLT) does what we do."

After the rousing success of The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams' work shifted focus and tonality, becoming more abstract and daring, tackling the mental deterioration and anguish of human beings with a frankness never seen before. Williams calls Out Cry "my most beautiful play since Streetcar, the very heart of my life."
