AN EVENING WITH THE STARS
REACH FOR THE STARSAstronomy Programs with Mark Freilich

FEE: for each session $10.00 per adult member, $12 per adult non-member, and $7.00 for children ages 7-12 (includes handout information packet)

Understand and appreciate the mystery and beauty of the universe with astronomer Mark Freilich. See the moon up close, learn about and view the Orion Nebular, the Andrometer Galaxy, the Big Dipper, Saturn, and Sirius. These programs comprise an indoor lecture on basic astronomy and outdoor viewing with a professional telescope. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes. Experience different and exciting viewings at each event!
*To ensure the quality of all astronomy workshops we reserve the right to cancel if the weather forecast calls for rain.


KNITTING CIRCLE
Join APEC's very own knitting circle! We welcome knitters, crocheters, or crafters of any kind! Come to show off a new project, share some snacks, or just knit with friends. Please note that this is a meeting for adults who know how to knit, not a class. Children who know how to knit are welcome if accompanied by a parent/guardian. Call or e-mail to inquire about meeting times; speak to Liz at ext. 200 or emcglinchey@alleypond.com! We will meet a few times a month, and there will be a fee of $3M/$5NM per meeting.

The Green Café is where those who love nature and the arts can meet and mingle at Alley Pond Environmental on Friday, November 19th from 7:30pm to 10pm.

 

In "Nature as Muse," each Café will feature the work of established creative artists working in a variety of media and a discussion of how the natural world influences their craft. November's theme: "Through Nature's Lens" Documentary Film Producer, Thomas Veltre and Alley Pond photographer in residence, Richard Blum.

 

Holiday Auction Fund Raiser
Saturday, December 12th, doors open at 6:30pm. Bidding begins at 7pm.
FEE: $10 per adult/ $5 per child ages 5 to 12

Join Alley Pond Environmental Center for a fun evening of bidding on great holiday decorations, treasures and gifts for all price ranges and all ages. The doors will open at 6:30pm and bidding will begin at 7pm. 50/50's and raffles will also be available. Light refreshments will be served. The fee is $10 per adult and $5 per child ages 5 to 12. Children will not get a bidding paddle. Original artwork by Fred Adel will also be available for sale. Help us raise funds for our environmental education programs.

Parent Participation- Itsy Bitsy Spiders
Ages 3 - 4 with one adult per child
By popular demand we have added a class for 3 and 4 year olds where they can bring an adult to share their experience. Would you like to walk with eight legs, make a giant spider web, go on a web hunt and touch a pretend tarantula? Come to APEC and experience these fun-filled activities plus spider songs, a story, a snack and a craft. Limited to 8 children with one adult each.

Animals That Go Bump in the Night

Are you brave enough to discover what creatures lurk in the darkness? Learn about nocturnal animals and what they do during the long, dark night. Program includes story time, games, a snack, a craft and a hike in search of animal tracks and other signs of these nighttime friends. All participants must be toilet trained.

Take a walk on the wild side at APEC. You never know what wildlife you might find when we hike the trails of Alley Pond Park. Explore parts of the park rarely seen and hike trails that are seldom used. Blaze trails as we investigate the autumn wonders of the park. Walk will be held rain or shine, so be sure to dress appropriately (and be prepared to get dirty) and wear comfortable shoes. In case of severe weather, program will run indoors. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served when we return to APEC. Limited to 8 participants.

Young Chefs- Yummy Vegetable Soup
As the weather turns colder what would be better than to warm ourselves up with a nice bowl of soup! During this class young APEC chefs will prepare a healthy, hearty vegetable soup. All materials included. Limited to 8 participants.

Winter Wildlife
Ages 3, 4 -5, and 6 - 7
This year you can share your winter vacation with birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians while learning how these animals cope with the season's worst weather. Learn about the amazing winter survival techniques of wildlife through stories, games, crafts and live animals up close. A snack is provided. Ages 3 and 4 limited to 12 participants. Ages 5 and 6-7 limited to 15 participants.
