Simone Alaimo will sing the role of Dr. Dulcamara in "L'Elisir d'Amore" for the Met's 2008-09 season, replacing Bryn Terfel, who has decided to retire the role from his repertoire.
The cast includes Angela Gheorghiu and Nicole Cabell as Adina, Rolando Villazón and Joseph Calleja as Nemorino, and Franco Vassallo as Belcore. Maurizio Benini conducts. Performances are scheduled for March 31, April 4 matinee, 8, 11 evening, 15, 18 evening, and 22, 2009.Alaimo, who specializes in the comic ("buffo") bass roles by 19th century Italian composers, sang the title part in the new production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale in 2006 and Don Magnifico in the company premiere of La Cenerentola in 1997. He has also appeared at the Met as Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Assur in Rossini's Semiramide, the role of his 1993 company debut.Videos
