Afternoon Playground Presents 2012: A New Dawn 6/5-7/4 At The Brick

By:

There's a lot of panic in the world about what lies ahead in the unknown future. Since the days of Christ, people have feared the apocalypse. As 2000 approached technophiles feared the implications of Y2K. And today, numerologists are all in a twitter over the Mayan Calendar supposed prediction about the end of the world on December 21, 2012. Drawing on this paranoia, Afternoon Playland has written a comedy about coming to terms with the inevitable destruction of our planet.

Afternoon Playland is a sock puppet improv group that has performed all over NYC and Brooklyn. MTV's Human Giant has called them, "...the most effective anti-drug sock puppet PSA we've ever seen." They were invited guests at the 2008 NYC Hacker Convention. The group has taken their quick wit, entertaining stage presense, and askew comedic sensibilities to The Brick's Antidepressent Festival with their first foray into scripted material, "2012: A New Dawn". Without giving anything away about this wild show, audiences can expect to see a psychiatrist's mental breakdown, horny aliens, a drunk Santa Claus, a rock concert spectacle, and an exploding Earth.

In preparation for their comedic celebration of the Armageddon, the sock puppet group has also launched an Earth Evacuation sign-up sheet at www.earthevaclist.com. Visitors are asked to send in what skills they possess that would be of use in rebuilding civilization.

Afternoon Playland's 2012: A New Dawn features Eden Gauteron, Roy Koshy, Desiree´ Nash, Starr Kendall, Shawn Wickens and special guest, Phil Wells.

2012: A New Dawn will play as part of The Antidepressant Festival, June 5-July 4 at The Brick (575 Metropolitan Avenue between Union and Lorimer), June 6th at 11pm | June 21 at 5:30pm, Tickets ($15, discounts for Scientologists and Evangelical Christians at the door) are available through https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/cal/122/1243909800000 (212-352-3101 or toll-free: 1-866-811-4111).
