Elaine Stewart, the actress whose many credits include "Young Bess" and "Brigadoon," passed away yesterday due to a long illness. She was 81 years old.

She made her film debut in 1952's "Sailor Beware," followed quickly by "Singin' In the Rain"; her most film notable role was arguably in 1954's "Brigadoon."

Other credits include the co-hostess on two 1970s game shows, Gambit with Wink Martindale and the nighttime edition of High Rollers with Alex Trebek, both produced by her husband Merrill Heatter.

Stewart was born in Montclair, N.J., and is survived by Heatter, son Stewart, and daughter Gabrielle.
