AMNH Continues One Step Beyond Series 3/16 With John Stainer

Now in its fifth season, the American Museum of Natural History's One Step Beyond party series continues with a DJ set by John Stainer of Battles in the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe on Friday, March 16.

During this ongoing party series, guests can dance in the Museum's Rose Center for Earth and Space to the sounds of the biggest names in techno, electronica, hip-hop, and indie rock. Guests can also enjoy the Hayden Big Bang Theater, located in the lower part of the Hayden Sphere, which features a dynamic multi-media presentation, narrated by acclaimed actor Liam Neeson, that takes visitors on a thrilling four-minute trip from Earth to The Edge of the visible universe. Each ticket also includes one pass to the Museum for future use. Visuals for One Step Beyond are produced by Glowing Pictures.

WHO: John Stainer of Battles, headline (DJ set)

Battles formed in New York City in 2002. Drummer John Stanier (Helmet) and guitarists Ian Williams (Don Caballero) and Dave Konopka (Lynx) released their successful debut album "Mirrored" in 2007 with Tyondai Braxton. Their follow up album "Gloss Drop" features a variety of singers including UK's dark synth pop pioneer Gary Numan, Chilean-born Kompakt minimal techno producer Matias Aguayo, and cult indie rocker Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead.

 

Black Moth Super Rainbow, support (DJ set)

Black Moth Super Rainbow (BMSR) emerged from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2003. BMSR's records include "Falling Through a Field," "Start a People," "Dandelion Gum," and "Eating Us." They are working on their fifth album.

They have appeared at several music festivals including South by Southwest, WIDRBarking Tuna, and Sasquatch, and opened for The Flaming Lips during their Fall 2007 tour.

 

WHERE:                     American Museum of Natural History. Guests should enter through the Weston Pavilion entrance on Columbus Avenue at 79th Street.

 

ADMISSION:           Admission to One Step Beyond is $25. Guests must be 21 and present valid ID.

                                    A beer and wine cash bar is available.
