A Sneak Peak at the Costume Institute's Punk Exhibit

By:

Anna Wintour and Riccardo Tisci were among the select few to preview the upcoming Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition "Punk: Chaos to Couture." Curator Andrew Bolton presented the audience with works from various designers including Vivienne Westwood, Rei Kawakubo, Rodarte, Versace, and a Chanel.

Each piece has a theme of punk. For example the Chanel tweed suit has "equisitely finished rips and holes" reported The Times.

The exhibit opens to the public May 9th after the Met Ball, which takes place on May 6th. The gala will be co-chaired by Wintour and Tisci, as well as Lauren Santo Domingo and Rooney Mara.

About the exhibit:

"Punk's signature mixing of references was fueled by artistic developments such as Dada and postmodernism," said Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, "so it makes sense to present this exhibition in a museum that also shows the broader output of those movements. Indeed, that dialogue between art and fashion is what makes The Costume Institute so singular. Projects like this don't happen without sponsorship, and we greatly appreciate the generosity of Moda Operandi, and its co-founders Aslaug Magnusdottir and Lauren Santo Domingo."
