92Y's April Streaming Recitals Include Marc-André Hamelin, Angela Hewitt & More

92Y's highly popular online concerts - experienced by more than half a million viewers worldwide - continue in April with five live streams and three recitals from 92Y's archives. Additional programs are planned through the end of the month and beyond. All of the content is free.

Sunday, April 5 (7:30 pm EDT)

A rebroadcast of pianist Shai Wosner's May 2018 recital at 92Y. His program includes two of Schubert's sublime late sonatas: the Sonata in G Major, D. 894, Op. 78 ("Fantasie") and the Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960. For the occasion, Wosner will introduce the works via video and record an encore at his home.

Friday, April 10 (7:30 pm EDT)

Pianist Benjamin Hochman, a favorite of 92Y audiences, will perform a live streamed concert from his home. The all-Mozart program includes the composer's Fantasia in C Minor and a pair of sonatas: No. 14 in C Minor and No. 12 in F Major.

Tuesday, April 14 (7:30 EDT)

Marc-André Hamelin streams a characteristically elegant program from his home, with the timely inclusion of Liszt's Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude [God's blessing in solitude].The repertoire also includes C. P. E. Bach, Enescu, Fauré, Scriabin, and six selections from Debussy's Preludes, Book II.

Friday, April 17 (7:30 pm EDT)

Pedja Muzijevic's upcoming concert at 92Y has been replaced by a live stream from the pianist's home. Muzijevic's program includes a pair of sonatas by C. P. E. Bach, along with Philip Glass's Mad Rush, John Cage's proto-minimalist In a Landscape, selections from American composer George Antheil's La femme 100 tête, and Satie's Embryons desséchés.

Monday, April 20 (7:30 EDT)

Israeli-American pianist Renana Gutman will stream a live concert from her home. She will perform Bach's French Suite No. 6 and Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op. 28, plus works by Debussy, Fauré, and Scriabin.

Thursday, April 23 (7:30 EDT)

Pianist Julia Hamos performs Schumann's Symphonic Etudes and Bartók's 15 Hungarian Peasant Songs. She is then joined in this live streamed home concert by partner Benjamin Hochman in Schubert's Fantasia in F Minor for piano four-hands.

Tuesday, April 28 (7:30 pm EDT)

brings a rebroadcast of violinist Pamela Frank and pianist Stephen Prutsman's all-Bach recital, recorded at 92Y in early March. The program comprises five of Bach's Sonatas for Violin and Keyboard, each work a rich, evocative exploration of the resources of the instruments.

Thursday, April 30, 2019 (7:30 pm EDT)

Angela Hewitt's Bach Odyssey will continue with a re-broadcast of her May 2019 recital at 92Y, in which she played all seven of Bach's Toccatas. Says Hewitt, "The seven Toccatas are rarely played all together in one concert but it's a great experience for the listener to hear how the young Bach showed off not only his touch (the word Toccata comes from the Italian "toccare"- to touch), but also his skill at improvisation."
