As part of the inaugural Tilt Kids Festival, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) present The Total People, a new commission by 600 HIGHWAYMEN and the company's first work for young audiences. The Total People is a combination of things: a parade, a choir, a dance, and a collection of video portraits. As with past events, 600 HIGHWAYMEN continues to construct expansive performances that illuminate the poignancy and theatricality of people coming together. Their work examines presence and humanity, not only in the performance, but in process and aftermath. Sound design by Brandon Wolcott, video design by Jeff Larson, and produced by Andrew Dinwiddie.

600 HIGHWAYMEN, under the direction of Abigail Browde and Michael Silverstone, makes performances that focus on the inherent poignancy and theatricality of people together. The Obie-award winning company explores a radical approach to making live art, constructing events that create intimacy among a group of strangers. Hilton Als in The New Yorker writes, "I wish to hear anything that 600 Highwaymen has to say ... the company's guilelessness is central to its beautiful art." Since 2009, they've made six works that have toured throughout Europe and in the U.S.

Performances of The Total People will take place March 12 at 2pm and 5pm at FIAF's Le Skyroom (22 East 60th Street, Manhattan). Tickets are $20 ($15 for FIAF members) and can be purchased at tiltkidsfestival.org and by calling 800.982.2787.

The Total People is not open for review.
