Over three dozen small New York-based theatre companies have been selected as recipients of J.P. Morgan Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York grants, according to an article in Backstage.

Thirty-eight theatres, each with budgets ranging from $100,000-$500,000, will share over $150,000 in grant funds.  The individual grants range from $2,000 to $7,500.

Among the companies benefiting from the Morgan grants will be The Civilians, Naked Angels, the Peccadillo Theatre Company, Rattlestick Theatre Company, Soho Repertory Theatre, Theatre by the Blind and Vital Theatre Company.

According to the article, "The program helps get the companies through this sometimes difficult stage of development, which often happens just as troupes are just hitting their artistic stride."  Founded in 1998, the program helps out companies that aren't quite emerging but that aren't big enough to qualify for much corporate assistance.
