This juxtaposition of two monumental exhibits is the embodiment of Black History Month: artist and children's book illustrator Jerry Pinkney exhibits watercolor paintings depicting historic figures and events in black history, while Pete Souza, the Chief OfficiAl White House Photographer, displays behind-the-scenes photographs of President Barack Obama's first year in office, from dinner with his family to a snowball fight with Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

These two exhibitions viewed together give a glimpse of where we've been and how far we've come.
