Review: THE SECOND CITY: FREE SPEECH! (WHILE SUPPLIES LAST) Offers Some Laughs at Wausau's Grand Theater

THE SECOND CITY: FREE SPEECH! (WHILE SUPPLIES LAST) appeared at Wausau's Grand Theater on Friday, October 14. The show was entertaining overall even though some sketches fell flat.

The show seemed to take a while to really get going. However, by the second half, the audience was much more engaged.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the limited political satire. Since the show is touted as being about the upcoming elections, audiences likely assumed that this would be the focus. However, many sketches did not tie back to politics.

While some sketches fell flat, there were also some hilarious points. In general, the biggest laughs came from the improvised portions where the actors truly excelled. For instance, Jeffrey Murdoch's performance inspired by the suggestion "Dumb and Dumber" was perhaps funnier than the movie itself. Additionally, the improvised portions allowed more room for the actors to delve into some great political digs (though they were sometimes subtle).

Overall, THE SECOND CITY: FREE SPEECH! (WHILE SUPPLIES LAST) was an enjoyable show in spite of a few misses.
