Up & Down Theatre Company will present their satirical musical review Winning the Future at Teatro Paraguas in Santa Fe, NM at 8pm tonight, April 19th and the 20th, at 4pm on April 21st, 2013.

Written by and starring Kate Chavez and Lindsey Hope Pearlman alongside Santa Fe jazz piano favorite Robin Holloway, Winning the Future is a playful, eclectic evening of original sketches and songs about America- where we are, and where we're headed. Equal parts political satire, sketch comedy, and musical theatre, three performers examine the political, economic and social circumstances of our times in a hilarious take on what it means to be American in 2013.

Up & Down is a collaboration that was born out of the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA) in London, England. As three of only five American students at the school, they discovered a unique, shared perspective as Americans abroad. "One of the provocations we were given at school was to examine our own culture and discover the idiosyncrasies," says actress/writer Kate Chavez. "We found that we shared a comedic sensibility and decided to collaborate once we all returned to the States."

"There's a lot to laugh about when you look at American culture," adds Pearlman.

Using Obama's 2011 State of the Union's invocation that we must "out-innovate, out-educate, and out-hustle the rest of the world in order to win the future," Up & Down found comedic inspiration by imagining how Americans might do just that. Winning the Future has been ongoing since fall 2011, and this year's offering will feature a mix of classic Up & Down favorites with brand new material.

Lindsey Hope Pearlman is a director, actor, writer, producer, and clown. She is a proud founding member of Up & Down Theatre Co. Favorite projects include: Leap of Faith (SDC Observer), Ships of Sand with Lyrebird Theatre Company (Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011), Winning the Future with Up & Down Theatre Co., and Rainbow Funk Squad. She also recently founded The Pearlman Sisters Theater Co., for whom she produced a sold-out run of Devotedly, Sincerely Yours: The Story of the USO in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival 2012. Lindsey recently appeared in the Target Margin Yiddish Theater Lab at The Brick Theater in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and can be seen performing throughout the five boroughs of NYC with the educational touring company Wildlife Theater, sponsored by the Wildlife Conservation Society. She is a graduate of the London International School of the Performing Arts (LISPA) and received her B.A from Hamilton College.

Robin Holloway is a songwriter, pianist, writer and actor who was born in New York City, and spent much of his young life in Germany. His theatrical training includes a year of training at The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, and two years of study at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA). He holds degrees in jazz piano performance from Chicago College of Performing Arts (BA), and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London (MA). Robin has been a performing and recording musician in Europe and the U.S. for over a decade, with performances at Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London. He equally enjoys writing, performing and directing, and has composed extensively for theatre and short films. He is a proud founding member of Up & Down Theater. Favorite projects include Cosmic Jazz Cabaret, an all-original musical comedy show performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and numerous venues around London, and (of course!) Winning The Future, Up & Down Theatre's most recent political comedy variety show.

Kate Chavez is an actor, writer and director, originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a proud founding member of Up & Down Theatre Co. Favorite projects include The Sincerity Project with Team Sunshine Performance Corporation (Philadelphia), AJ and Ann (London), Catching Flight by Lila Rose Kaplan (Camden Fringe Festival, London), and Muerde la Boca (Madrid). John Broadhead), and the feature film Death and Taxes (dir. Peter McCarthy). She is a graduate of LISPA and also holds an MA in Theatre and a BA in American Civilization from Brown University.
