The Adobe Theater Presents YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU

Alice Sycamore works for Tony Kirby, Junior. They have fallen in love and want to get married. Simple enough, but there are two problems - their families. The Kirbys are rich, ruthless, overflowing with self-importance, and sure they can always get what they want. The Sycamores are an unusual collection of goodhearted eccentrics who see the world in their own unique way, and cheerfully accept and celebrate their various oddities and foibles. What could possibly go wrong?

Alice arranges a dinner party at her parents' home so the two families can meet and get to know each other. Tony gets the date mixed up, and arrives - family in tow - the day before the scheduled dinner party. The Sycamores, the free spirits that they are, invite Tony's parents to stay and talk. When the lifestyles, philosophies, and business interests of the two families inevitably clash, Alice and Tony find themselves in the middle of a rapidly escalating inter-family uproar!

You Can't Take It With You, written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, is one of the most popular and enduring plays of modern times. Penned in the mid-1930s, it premiered on Broadway in 1936 and ran for 838 performances, winning the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Adapted to the screen in 1938, starring Jean Arthur as Alice and Jimmy Stewart as Tony, the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won for Best Picture and Best Director (Frank Capra). The play has remained popular to the present day, winning the 2015 New York Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards for "Best Revival of a Play".

Marty Epstein has been directing in Albuquerque for almost 25 years and along the way has directed almost 40 plays at venues around town including the Vortex, The Adobe and Albuquerque Little Theatre. His most recent projects have been The Nanceat the Vortex in June 2016, A Crack in the Wall at The Adobe in September 2015 and The Man Who Came to Dinner at the Vortex in November 2014.

You Can't Take It With You opens THURSDAY, November 3rd and plays THREE weekends through Sunday, November 20th, 2016. THURSDAYS, Fridays and Saturdays at 7.30pm and Sundays at 2.00pm, with a 'Pay What You Will' performance (proceeds are shared between the cast and crew) on Thursday, November 17th.
