Teatro Paraguas Presents Book Launch of House of McQueen by Valerie Wallace Image

Selected by Vievee Francis for the Four Way Books Intro Prize, Valerie Wallace's House of McQueen is a glittering debut by an assured new voice. Inhabiting the life and work of Alexander McQueen, Wallace builds a fantastical world using both original language and excerpts drawn from interviews, supermodels, Shakespeare, and more. At turns fierce and vulnerable, here is a collection that leaps from runway to fairytale to street with wild, brilliant grace. Wallace will be joined by local poets Tyler Mills and Aaron Rudolph.

Tyler Mills is the author of Hawk Parable, winner of the 2017 Akron Poetry Prize (forthcoming in 2019) and Tongue Lyre, winner of the 2011 Crab Orchard Series in Poetry First Book Award (SIU Press 2013). Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Guardian, Poetry, and her creative nonfiction won the Copper Nickel Editor's Prize in Prose and has also appeared in AGNI, The Rumpus, and the Collagist. She is editor-in-chief of The Account, an assistant professor at New Mexico Highlands University, and a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Aaron Rudolph, a New Mexico native, authored the poetry collections Sacred Things (2002) and The Sombrero Galaxy (2017) as well as the children's nonfiction book, The Bermuda Triangle (2005). He also has poems in the anthologies Two Southwests (2008) and Ain't Nobody That Can Sing Like Me: New Oklahoma Writing (2010). Three of his poems have been translated into Mandarin. Aaron is the founding editor of Cuento Magazine, a Twitter based magazine for micro writing, and he teaches in the English Department at New Mexico Highlands University.

Valerie Wallace is also the author of the chapbook The Dictators' Guide to Good Housekeeping, featuring ten poems chosen by Margaret Atwood for the Atty Award. Her work has been supported most recently by the Illinois Arts Council and the Department of Cultural Affairs for the City of Chicago. She is Associate Director, Communications, for the project Virtue, Happiness, & the Meaning of Life at the University of Chicago.
