Yvette Freeman to Appear at William Inge Theatre Festival, 3/26 - 3/29

Acclaimed actress and jazz vocalist Yvette Freeman shares her musical and dramatic talents during the 33rd annual William Inge Theatre Festival at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas.

Freeman will perform and appear at several events throughout the Inge Festival, which runs March 26-29 at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas.

Freeman is a featured performer at the March 29 show Arthur Kopit: What is the meaning of this?, a salute to the work of Inge Festival Honoree Arthur Kopit. Inge Festival audiences will also enjoy her musical talents during the March 28 Gala Performance, a fund-raiser for the continued restoration of the William Inge Boyhood Home, which is used an artist retreat.

Yvette Freeman has starred in the Broadway, First National, Paris and International companies of Ain't Misbehavin'; the New York production of Dinah Was, based on the life of the legendary jazz singer Dinah Washington, and won the 1998 Obie for Best Actress.

She played the role of 101-year-old Dr. Bessie in Having Our Say at the New Jersey McCarter Theater, directed by Emily Mann. Two TV roles of which she is most proud are Nurse Haleh Adams on the acclaimed series ER, and the character of Evelyn Smalley on the NBC sitcom Working. In 2010, Freeman had the honor of being nominated for and NAACP Image Award for her role as Dr. Lewis in the soap opera The Bold and The Beautiful. Her second album "In My Arms" was released in 2011. Arthur Kopit will be at the Inge Festival all four days and will accept the William Inge Distinguished Achievement in the American Theatre Award.
