According to baz, and many others Emma is coming back to the London stage which is great news. But do we really need ANOTHER Sweeney revival so soon after the last???

Don't think you can have too much Sweeney, especially if you have Emma Thompson. I did think This would of made the hop across the Atlanticand know it is going to I am super excited.

This Sweeney will have many things going for it. 1. a limited run. 2. a steller duo in the lead (Emma Thomson and Bryn Terfel) 3. the full ENO orchestra.

I saw Bryn Terfel as Sweeney Todd at Chicago Lyric Opera about a dozen years ago (I think that was the first time he'd done the role) and lemme tell ya, it's worth whatever they will be charging for a ticket. I think I am going to head down to Houston Grand Opera this season to see Nathan Gunn have a go at Sweeney.

I don't really see this as a Sweeney revival - it's likely to just be a few performances I'd have thought.

I saw Terfel's Todd in the otherwise fairly dreadful Festival Hall production back in 2007 or so. He may not be the most expressive actor physically but vocally he was wonderful. If they could team him with a Lovett who can sing (Maria Friedman sounded hoarse and forgetful), a Judge who can learn their soliloquy, an Anthony who can keep in time during Kiss Me, and a decent sound design and production, then he would be worth seeing again.

"a Judge who can learn their soliloquy"

That's probably never going to happen!

The soliloquy isn't that hard, surely? I am no bass so have no idea.

Actually, did Philip Quast do it this time round with Terfel and Thompson? They had to cut it from the RFH production because he couldn't learn it, hence my snide comment.
