Theatre producer Steven M. Levy received an honorary award from the London College of Music, part of the University of West London (UWL) on Wednesday 23 July. The University's annual graduation ceremony took place at Wembley Stadium with 1,700 graduates in attendance.

Celebrated for his contribution to theatre, Steven is a theatrical producer, general manager and theatre owner in both New York and London. His productions have received 14 Tony Award nominations, five Tony Awards, as well as the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle and OBIE Awards. West End productions include the UK premiere of Jerry Herman's Dear World; Fascinating Aida: Cheap Flights; the world premiere of Six Actors in Search of Director (written and directed by Steven Berkoff); the Olivier Award-winning La Boheme; and Tom Stoppard's The Invention of Love (Theatre Royal Haymarket). Broadway productions include Dame Edna: The Royal Tour and Martin McDonough's The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Thornton Wilder's Our Town (starring Paul Newman) and Noel Coward's Waiting in the Wings (starring Lauren Bacall).

Speaking about receiving his honorary Doctor of Letters (Hon DLitt) Steven said; "It is always gratifying to have one's body of work recognised, but in truth, those of us who have had the privilege to work in the professional theatre already lead a charmed existence. What we do for a living is also something which we would do simply for the love of it."

The graduation ceremony marks the end of the year for the University, which reported 95% of its students gain full-time employment within six months of graduating. Each of the University's eight schools confer honorary degrees to recognise business success, contributions to civic and cultural life and long-term support for the University's work.
