Pop singer, Sheena Easton, will make her West End debut in a revival of the classic musical 42nd Street. The singer will play the role of Dorothy Brock: the diva Broadway star who sustains an ankle injury just before opening night.

Easton was approached by producer Michael Linnit to join the cast of the revival, despite her lack of experience with tap dancing, a signature of the show's choreography. Though the star has never been known for her dancing ability, director Mark Bramble was undeterred by the singer's lack of dance training, as her character in the show spends the majority of her stage time in a wheelchair.

Easton will travel to London next week to meet her fellow 42nd Street cast members, including Clare Halse, who will be stepping into the tap shoes of ingénue Peggy Sawyer, and Tom Lister who will play demanding director, Julian Marsh. The cast will be rounded out by Jasna Ivir, Stuart Neal, Norman Bowman, Emma Caffrey, Clare Rickard and Bruce Montague.

Rehearsals for 42nd Street will begin in 2017. The shows's famed "dancing feet" will be brought to life by Randy Skinner.

The revival will begin previews at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on March 20, 2017.
