According to the Daily Mail, SWEENEY TODD co-stars and co-hosts of 2011's Olivier Awards ceremony Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton are in talks to star in TUBBY AND ENID, a romantic comedy written and directed by Victoria Wood for BBC TV.

The series will be based Wood's play with songs that she originally wrote for Manchester Festival under the title "That Day We Sang". The story follows Tubby and Enid, who sang together in children's choirs in Manchester in the '20s and meet 40 years later during the making of a TV documentary.

Ball starred in the West End in last year's Sweeney Todd at the Adelphi, which earned him an Olivier Award. His other West End credits include Hairspray, for which he won an Olivier in 2008, Kismet, The Woman in White (which later transferred to Broadway), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Passion, Aspects of Love (also on Broadway) and Les Miserables. He also starred in New York City Opera's Patience in 2005.

Staunton's West End roles include Mrs. Lovett in last year's Sweeney Todd, Miss Adelaide and Mimi in two different productions of Guys and Dolls, The Baker's Wife in Into the Woods, for which she won an Olivier Award in 1991, and another Olivier-winning turn in two 1985 plays: A Chorus of Disapproval and The Corn Is Green. She will be starring as Rose in the upcoming London revival of GYPSY this year. Staunton will next appear on the big screen in Maleficent. Her recent screen credits include The Awakening and the Harry Potter series, as well as the TV series Doctor Who, Psychoville, Cranford, Big and Small, Little Britain and more.

Hilary BEvan Jones is producing and will likely begin filming for TUBBY AND ENID in 2014.
