David Tennant, who just hosted the two-hour TV special Shakespeare Live! At The RSC, was joined by a "line of Hamlets," including Paapa Essiedu, Tim Minchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Harriet Walter, Rory Kinnear, Ian McKellen, and Judi Dench to debate how to perfectly deliver one of the most iconic lines in Shakespeare: "To be, or not to be." Yesterday, April 23rd, the Royal Shakespeare Company celebrated Shakespeare's birthday and the 400th anniversary of his death with Shakespeare Live. Directed by Gregory Doran and hosted by David Tennant and Catherine Tate in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, the event celebrated the huge legacy of Shakespeare's work across many different art forms including theatre, dance, opera and music.

The cast included: Akala (Hip Hop Shakespeare), Roger Allam, Birmingham Royal Ballet, SimonRussell Beale, Ian Bostridge, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Benedict Cumberbatch, Judi Dench, Anne Marie Duff, English National Opera, Paapa Essiedu, Joseph Fiennes, Alexandra Gilbreath, Henry Goodman, the cast of Horrible Histories, Rufus Hound, Rory Kinnear, John Lithgow, Ian McKellan, Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra, Tim Minchin, Helen Mirren, Alison Moyet, Al Murray, Pippa Nixon, Orchestra of the Swan, Gregory Porter, the Royal Ballet, Antony Sher, The Shires, Meera Syal, David Suchet, Catherine Tate, Rufus Wainwright and Harriet Walter.

The show was broadcasted live on BBC Two on 23 April, from 8.30pm and will be screened live to Picturehouse cinemas in the UK and Europe, and around the rest of the world by BBC Worldwide.
