Celebrations for the Olivier Awards with MasterCard will start early this year with the opening of a brand new pop-up space near the Covent Garden Piazza entrance of the Royal Opera House. A host of free activities, workshops and exhibitions will run from Tuesday 7 April until the day of the glamorous ceremony itself, Sunday 12 April.

The programme of free, ticketed events includes a storytelling workshop with Jacqueline Wilson, whose novel Hetty Feather has been adapted for the stage and is nominated for the Best Entertainment and Family award. There will also be professional stage make-up demonstrations and masterclasses, such as a comedy improvisation workshop with the writers and stars of Best New Comedy nominated show The Play That Goes Wrong, and a talk by celebrated backstage theatre photographer Matt Humphrey on his West End yearbook, Curtain Call.

Theatrelovers will be able to enjoy a special display of Olivier nominated costumes from designers Robert Jones (City Of Angels), Alejo Vietti (Beautiful - The Carole King Musical) and Paul Tazewell (Memphis The Musical), as well as sketches from Christopher Oram (Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies which is currently on Broadway) and the four This Morning Audience Award finalists Billy Elliot The Musical, Jersey Boys, Matilda The Musical and Wicked. There is also an exclusive gallery of behind-the-scenes photography taken at previous star-studded ceremonies on display.

Furthermore, members of the public will have the chance to be photographed on the pop-up's very own red carpet alongside an Olivier Award statue from Es Devlin's incredible set.

In addition to the free events, the pop-up space will be selling discounted theatre tickets via TKTS, Theatre Tokens and limited edition Olivier Awards merchandise.

The Olivier Awards with MasterCard is the most prestigious event in the UK's theatrical calendar and celebrates the world-class status of London theatre. A full highlights package of the ceremony will be broadcast on ITV at 22:15 on Sunday 12 April.
