The Menier Chocolate Factory have announced a charity play reading of the original Merrily We Roll Along script, featuring the cast of the theatre's hit musical.

Before the well-loved musical that is Merrily We Roll Along by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, there was the original play, written in 1934 by George S Kaufman and Moss Hart. Although rarely revived, the play was the inspiration for Sondheim and Furth's piece. Focusing on the lifelong friendship of three characters, the play tells their story in reverse time, from 1934 to 1916, and is a poignant and bittersweet reflection of life, love and loss.

For this exclusive charity event, the current cast of Merrily We Roll Along - including Mark Umbers, Jenna Russell and Damian Humbley - will take part in a rehearsed reading directed by Adam Lenson on Sunday 24th February at 7.30pm.

The proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to our chosen charity for this event, Chickenshed Theatre. Chickenshed is an inclusive theatre company, who work with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to produce outstanding theatre that inspires, challenges, entertains and educates both audiences and participants alike.

Director Maria Friedman has spoken to BWW:UK before about her support for Chickenshed and how it has helped her family.

Tickets are £12.50.
