The Menier Chocolate Factory has announced that its upcoming season will include productions of ASSASSINS by Stephen Sondheim & John Weidman, BUYER AND CELLAR by Jonathan Tolins & starring Michael Urie, plus AN EVENING WITH JOAN PLOWRIGHT.

ASSASSINS

Friday 21st November - Saturday 7th March

This multi-Tony award-winning musical ASSASSINS by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman will be directed by Jamie Lloyd.

The American Dream goes sour in this sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing examination of the people throughout history who have tried - and sometimes succeeded - in assassinating the President of the United States.

Jamie Lloyd's most recent credits include Richard III with Martin Freeman (Trafalgar Studios), Urinetown (St James and Apollo) and The Commitments (Palace Theatre).

Michael Urie stars in BUYER AND CELLAR, "the most talked about new comedy of the year" according to The New York Times.

Urie plays an out-of-work actor working in Barbra Streisand's personal shopping mall in the basement of her California home. A hit in New York and currently touring America, this will be the UK premiere of this sparkling
comedy.

Michael Urie is probably best known to UK audiences for his role as Marc St James in TV's Ugly Betty. His theatre credits include How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Broadway), The Cherry Orchard (CSC), Angels in America (Signature) and The Temperamentals (Lucille Lortel Award). For his performance in Buyer and Cellar, Michael won the Drama Desk Award for Best Solo Performance and the Clarence Derwent Award for Most Promising Male Performer.

AN EVENING WITH JOAN PLOWRIGHT

Sunday 14th September 2014, 7pm

In a rare stage appearance, Dame Joan discusses with director Richard Digby Day her wide- ranging career lasting over sixty years. She talks of her early days, her work at the Royal Court, her rise to stardom in London and on Broadway and the establishment of the National Theatre under her husband Laurence Olivier.
