Islington's Old Red Lion Theatre today announces its Autumn and Winter 2016 season with the rebirth of its literary department and a season of commissions from some of the UK's most exciting young writers.

The season opens with the world premiere debut play of Irish writer John O'Donovan, IF WE GOT SOME MORE COCAINE I COULD SHOW YOU HOW I LOVE YOU - directed by Thomas Martin (Ross & Rachel). The story of two men stuck in a rut (and on a roof) it marks the emergence of a major new voice in a raucous and unlikely romantic drama.

The unconventional set of COCAINE... will also play host to THE ROOFTOP SESSIONS, a season of newly commissioned short plays produced by recently installed Literary Manager Clive Judd (Captain Amazing, Sparks) and written by Hayley Frances, Lisa Carroll, Marek Horn, Susie Sillett, Freddie Machin and Tom Wentworth. THE ROOFTOP SESSIONS will also feature a line-up of fantastic music, comedy, poetry and theatre performed as late-night events each evening.

In early October acclaimed storyteller Robert Lloyd Parry and his Nunkie Theatre bring their one-man retelling of H G Wells's science fiction classic THE TIME MACHINE to the theatre for one week only.

October also sees the advent of LONDON HORROR FESTIVAL 2016 to the theatre. Originally co-founded in 2011 by the Old Red's artistic director Stewart Pringle and now produced by Katy Danbury, it's in its sixth year of bringing together the finest horror and suspense in the performing arts, and features 10+ companies over three weeks of spine-chilling entertainment.

In November Camilla Whitehill's award-winning WHERE DO LITTLE BIRDS GO? returns to London following sell-out runs at the 2015 VAULTS festival and Edinburgh Fringe. The story of young Lucy Fuller, kidnapped by the Kray Twins and locked in a flat with a convicted murderer, it's a heart-breaking story which has attracted universal acclaim wherever it has played.

Stewart Pringle, Artistic Director, says: "It's been fantastic working with Clive and our new literary team on putting together this new season. Having the debut full-length from John O'Donovan is a great coup for us, and working with artists this season like Thomas Martin, Camilla Whitehill and others is going to be such a joy. It's also so exciting to have the London Horror Festival coming to the Old Red for the first time - I hope we can offer a home to its creepy charms for many years to come."
