In the film Repertory Theatre: An Actor's Apprenticeship, Dame Judi Dench has voiced her hopes for repertory-style theatre to make a comeback.

Dench offered her hypothesis on why there are so few repertory theatres these days, saying, "I suppose the demise for rep is a lack of money, and maybe a television culture. Having said that, there are wonderful reps around still, and thank goodness for it."

But Dench is also hopeful for the future of repertory theatres. "As long as there are some of those reps going and they keep going, there's a light, a little flame that we can nurture, and hope that sometime in the future it will come back to being a bonfire," the actress said.

Dench's comments were featured in the trailer for the documentary. Watch the clip below!

Dench one of the country's best-known and well-loved actors. She made her professional debut in 1957 with the Old Vic Company and her career has encompassed award-winning work for the RSC and National Theatre as well as a glittering screen career. Her film roles include Queen Victoria in MRS BROWN, M in the Bond series and Elizabeth I in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, for which she won an Oscar.
