Star of musical theatre (and Torchwood) John Barrowman is supporting a charity auction to raise money for the Philippines relief efforts.

British author Keris Stainton is running Authors for the Philippines, where writers donate prizes to be auctioned off, with all proceeds going directly to the British Red Cross.

Barrowman and sister Carole are about to start work on the Hollow Earth trilogy - and are offering readers the chance to have a character named after them in the first of the series.

"We start work on this trilogy next spring so you'd have to be patient, but we promise it will be worth the wait," they say.

Other authors donating items include Meg Rosoff and Armistead Maupin.
