The 1st Annual Logan Festival of Solo Performance, presented with generous support from the Reva & David Logan Foundation, will run at 1st Stage from July 6-16, 2017. This innovative festival, the first of its kind in the DC region, will gather acclaimed solo performers from across the country for two-weeks of performances, workshops, discussions, and events. The main stage festival schedule features:

Hick: A Love Story by Terry Baum and Pat Bond, Directed by Carolyn Myers and featuring Terry Baum. Hick: A Love Story had two sold-out and critically acclaimed runs in the San Francisco Bay Area and was nominated for a Theatre Bay Area Award. This compelling one-woman show is based on Eleanor Roosevelt's letters to pioneer journalist Lorena Hickok exploring the romantic relationship between these two extraordinary women and highlighting the evolution of LGBTQ relationships in America. "Hick is a real love story like no other - a compelling, thoroughly researched one-woman show... A fascinating story that, at last, has come to light." (San Francisco Examiner)

Empanada for a Dream written by and featuring Juan Francisco Villa. Empanada for a Dream is a poignant and entertaining portrait of family and neighborhood set against the secret that destroys it all. It's a haunting tale about growing up by getting out - and coming back - to one boy's Lower East Side. In his living memoir, Juan Francisco Villa uncovers the treasures of his family's dark legacy. This production is "at the heart of our current national debate about what it means to be an American and how much responsibility we owe to each other." (The Chicago Tribune)

The Gun Show by E.M. Lewis, Directed by Shawn Lee and featuring Vin Shambry. Lewis returns to 1st Stage following the extended run of her world premiere play Now Comes the Night. Drawing on a personal history with firearms, Lewis has created a play that examines the gun control debate and how a diverse nation searches for mutual understanding. She grew up in rural Oregon, where everyone has guns. She learned to shoot on a date. She worked at Jackson's Bookstore during an armed robbery, and once encountered a threatening cop in New York. And then there's the fifth story: the one that doesn't let go, the story that triggered this show. The Gun Show takes aim at America's most dangerous past time with brutal honesty and poignant humor. Leaning neither right nor left, it jumps into the middle of the gun control debate and asks, "Can we have a conversation about this?" The Gun Show is "about as timely as you can get. And given that Lewis' solo show will be performed by Vin Shambry, one of [Portland's] best actors, it's downright essential." (Portland Mercury)

Design support for Hick: A Love Story is provided by Vola Ruben (set), Pablo Santiago (lights), and Audrey Howard (sound). Voiceover by Paula Barish. Design support for Empanada for a Dream is provided by Pablo Santiago (lights) and Christopher Kriz (sound). Design support for The Gun Show is provided by CoHo Productions and Pablo Santiago (lights).
