The Future of Broadway: A Generation of Genius will showcase songs by some of the leading composers and lyricists of musical theatre
in the New-York Historical Society's March 20th benefit concert, which will take place at 7 PM.Hosted and featuring commentary by theatre critic Howard Kissel, the evening will feature songs by Lynn Ahrens and

Oklahoma!) have signed on to perform Lippa's "Raise the Roof" (from
The Wild Party), both the LaChiusa and Lippa versions of
"Queenie Was a Blond" (from
The Wild Party), La Chiusa's "Tom" (from
Hello Again), Finn's
"Change," "Sailing" (from
A New Brain) and "Unlikely Lovers" (from
Falsettos), Brown's "Skiksa Goddess" (from
The Last Five Years) and
"All the Wasted Time" (from
Parade), Tesori's "Forget About the Boy,"(from
Thoroughly Modern Millie), "Salty
Teardrops" (from
Caroline, or Change), and "Let It Sing" (from
Violet), Guettel's "The Beauty Is," "Dividing Day"(from
The Light in the Piazza)
and "How Glory Goes" (from
Floyd Collins), Yazbek's "Nothing Is Too Wonderful," (from
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), "Harold,"
"You Rule My World" (from
The Full Monty), Ahrens and Flaherty's "Dog Versus You" (from
Lucky Stiff), "Come Down
From the Tree" (cut from
Once On This Island) and "Our Children" (
Ragtime) and
Sam Davis' "Greenwich Time" and "I
Dream a World."
The
concert is one of four presented this year; funds will support
American Musicals Project, which drawing upon the resources of the
NYHS, will bring musical theatre history into schools by mixing it with
history and English lessons. On February 20th, a concert was held featuring the songs of Burton Lane and a March 6th concert paid tribute to the songs of Arthur Schwartz.
The Future of Broadway will be directed by AMP artistic director Scott Alan Evans, and feature music consultation by Ben Whiteley. Future AMP concerts will include a tribute to Charles Strouse (March 27th).The
