Starry Rocky Horror, Irwin Set for New Nyack Arts Center

A new arts center in Nyack, NY (which has yet to be named) is now open.

"It is a place to produce, perform and experience art.  Innovative programming in theater, dance, music, conversation and film will be presented," state press notes.  A launch party will take place on November 4th.

The Center's first event will be a live concert and film showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Oct. 28.  Nyack's own Neil Berg will produce the event, which will take place at 8 PM.

The evening will feature "songs from the Rocky Horror Picture Show followed by the classic cult film. The all-star cast includes the Tony Award-winning star of The Producers, Cady Huffman, as Magenta; Ron Bohmer (The Scarlet Pimpernel and Women in White) as Frank 'N' Furter, Danny Zolli (Jesus Christ Superstar), Rita Harvey (Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof) Brad Little (Phantom of the Opera), Mandy Gonzalez (Aida, Lennon), Michael Park ("As the World Turns"), Eric Buckly, Jeff Gardner, and more. The singers will be accompanied by a live seven piece band. Costumes are welcomed."

The launch party, featuring Tony Award-winning actor Bill Irwin, will take place on November 4th at 8 PM.  "Join us for a star-studded theatrical and musical sampler reflecting the diversity and richness of the arts and audiences in the region. Hosts Elliott Forrest and Darrell Larson joined by singer/songwriter Tom Chapin, Irwin, the legendary David Amram, Bridgman/Packer Dance, composer John Forster, singer/songwriter Freedy Johnston and others including the Chiku Awali African Dance Ensemble, neo-folkie Dusty Pascal, alt-rock Simple Life, James Molloy, Latin alt-electronica duo Monareta, United Sounds of Praise (HMC Family Worship Center), hip-hop group The Cartel Inc., the Steve Swann Band, The Anointed Voices of St. John Deliverance Tabernacle, Richard Sussman, Diane Scanlon, Andy Krikun, the Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble, soul/funk singer Baby Monroe and the American String Quartet with cellist David Geber."

Patron Tickets include pre-Launch Party event at the Hudson House, Saturday, Nov. 4 at 6pm.  "Join Bill Irwin and others for a special wine and hors-d'oeuvres party before the main event."

Other upcoming events include a screening of the film The Notorious Bettie Page, and discussion with director Mary Harron, on November 11th, "A Night with Ellen Burstyn" on November 12th, and a performance by They Might Be Giants on November 18th.
