Ron Howard to Bring London Hit Frost/Nixon to the Screen

By:

Oscar-winning director Ron Howard (Cinderella Man, A Beautiful Mind) will bring the Donmar Warehouse hit Frost/Nixon to the screen, according to Variety.

The play by Peter Morgan, which is centered around the legendary 1977 interviews between ex-president and the celebrity interviewer of the title, is playing the Donmar though October 7th; it opened on August 10th.

Universal snapped up the rights to the London hit after a bidding war involving DreamWorks, Warner Independent, Harvey Weinstein, Colin Callender and Scott Rudin, according to the industry paper.  "Howard saw the show at the West End's Donmar Warehouse last week and was said to have helped hammer out the pact during his London stay."

While no Broadway transfer details have been announced, "Howard and(Universal) have agreed to shoot the project following the show's West End and Broadway transfers."

Nixon/Frost stars Frank Langella (Fortune's Fool, Dracula) as Nixon and Michael Sheen (Amadeus on the West End) as Frost.

Morgan will adapt Frost/Nixon for film.  It will be jointly produced by Working Title and Imagine Entertainment, and produced by Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan Working Title, as well as by Brian Grazer for Imagine.
