Theatre Royal Haymarket Announces MASTER CLASS Autumn Events

Since Masterclass was created in 1998, it has established itself as the leading provider of free training for aspiring theatre makers. Masterclass runs a year round programme of talks, workshops, special projects, career advice sessions, showcases and performance opportunities for 14 - 30 year olds.

Autumn 2011 sees Director Michael Walling, Lebanese theatre maker Maya Zbib (currently being mentored by the American Director Peter Sellars on the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative) and Geoffrey Colman (Head of Acting at Central School of Speech Drama) take part in a panel discussion - Narratives without Borders. Actor Joan Collins and Directors Michael Boyd and Rupert Gould will also give Masterclass talks at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. They join over 250 leading theatre and film makers who have given their time free of charge to Masterclass including Gillian Anderson, Richard Curtis, Idris Elba, Sheila Hancock, Nicholas Hytner, Jeremy Irons, Derek Jacobi, Mike Leigh, Joanna Lumley, Ewan McGregor, Sienna Miller, Helen Mirren, Clive Rowe, Michael Sheen, Sheridan Smith and Zoe Wanamaker.

Masterclass Gala - The Tempest

Masterclass will also be hosting a Gala Performance of Trevor Nunn's production of The Tempest, with a company led by Ralph Fiennes. This fundraising event which takes place 15 September 2011 at 7.30pm will support the Theatre Royal Haymarket Masterclass Trust enabling them to continue their work with young people interested in engaging and being inspired by theatre. Afterclass Champagne Tea with Joan Collins and The Ritz London

Joan Collins will give a Masterclass on stage at the Theatre Royal Haymarket followed by an exclusive Afterclass champagne tea provided for by The Ritz London. Masterclass's Apprentice Scheme

The Masterclass Apprentice Scheme gives anyone aged 17-30 unprecedented access to one of the West End's most historic stages along with an insight into all aspects of theatre with masters of the craft. This year three paid apprenticeships were awarded to Emma Chapman (Stage Management), Tinuke Craig (Directing) and Andy Robinson (Design) to work on Trevor Nunn's production of The Tempest. Supported by The Garfield Weston Foundation, Masterclass will showcase the work of these three emerging artists in a special performance to be presented on stage at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on Friday, 21 September 2011, 12:00pm.

In addition, there will be three further apprenticeship opportunities on offer for Nunn's production The Lion in Winter, his fourth production as Artistic Director of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Company.

TheatreCraft Beyond the Stage Careers Fair 2011

This year's TheatreCraft Beyond the Stage Careers Fair 2011, pioneered by Masterclass, takes place on Monday 28 November 2011 at the London Coliseum. Now in its fourth year and attracting over 1200 17 - 25 year olds, the Careers Fair delivers a free programme of over 60 workshops, talks, tours and hands-on sessions covering all areas of non-performance work in the theatre. Theatrecraft is delivered in partnership with various other arts organisations.
