Award-winning director & choreographer Arthur Pita returns to Sadler's Wells this Christmas with his magical dance theatre show for all the family, The Little Match Girl. Based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic story, this tale of a young street girl's hopes and dreams is beautifully told through dance, song and original live music. Following its successful sell-out season last Christmas, the show opens at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler's Wells on 12 December and runs through until 3 January 2016. Suitable for ages 5+.

The production also tours regionally to Dance City Newcastle (1-5 Dec), The Lowry, Salford Quays (16-17 Jan) and DanceEast, Ipswich (22-23 Jan).

A snowy stage sets the scene for an icy cold Christmas Eve in an imaginary Italian town, where the little match girl paces the emptying streets trying to sell her matches. Cold, hungry and with just one final match flame to keep her warm, she sees a vision of her beloved grandmother. Leaving her troubled life behind, the little match girl is guided up into the night sky by her grandmother who takes her to the moon. Now, on a clear night, if you look closely, you might see the light of a shooting star, or is it a match burning brightly?

The Little Match Girl is choreographed and directed by Arthur Pita, with music composed by Frank Moon who performs his original score live on stage, designs by Yann Seabra and lighting designs by Ed Yetton. Corey Annand reprises her role as the little match girl. She is joined by fellow original cast members Valentina Golfieri, Frank Moon and Angelo Smimmo, with Faith Prendergast, Karl Fagerlund Brekke and Nuno Queimado playing alternating roles.

Arthur Pita's The Little Match Girl received its premiere at DanceEast in November 2013. The production is co-produced by DanceEast with funding by Arts Council England.
