Playwright and artist John Arden, age 81, just died in Galway on March 28, 2012.

Arden was an English playwright born in Barnsley.  His first play, RADIO PLAY, THE LIFE OF MAN gained critical attention.  Further works include SERJEANT MUSGRAVE'S DANCE (which was considered his best work), LIVE LIKE PIGS, THE WORKHOUSE DONKEY, ARMSTRONG'S LAST GOODNIGHT, and PEARL, among many others.  

He also wrote several novels including SILENCE AMONG THE WEAPONS and BOOKS OF BALE.
