First Draft to Stage BRAINVILLE AT NIGHT at Jack Studio Theatre, Feb 14-23

Brainville at Night by Alexander Moschos will be presented by First Draft, Thursday 14 - Saturday 23 February 2013 at 7.45pm.

Step into the belly of the Blue Whale, where the dancers are hot and the music is cool. You're handed a drink sent by a mysterious woman at the end of the bar, who invites you to take a trip on her own special rollercoaster.

Brainville at Night is a stylish adventure into the film noir-ish world of Ingrid's memories and imagination. So what if the doctors tell her that she lacks insight and the ability to empathise? Nothing is going to stop Ingrid - labels like "fronto-temporal dementia" never meant anything to her anyway. Whatever happens, she carries the love, excitement and romance of her life within her. Now if only we could convince the doctors to come along.

Featuring music, movement, projection and a fantastic ensemble cast, Brainville at Night is a new play by Alexander Moschos, transferring to the Jack Studio for a strictly limited run of eight performances . It follows director Matthew Parker's previous Jack Studio successes with A Woman Alone and Mary Rose in his trademark imaginative style.

Cast includes: Sophie Dora-Hall, RoBert Hickson, Illona Linthwaite, Eddie Usher, Julia Faulkner, and Fleur Shepherd

First Draft was formed in January 2010 by Director Matthew Parker and Actor/Producer Laura Harling as an opportunity to present original works (new writing or devised) and fresh adaptations in surroundings of The Horse, Waterloo. Hester Kent joined the company as Associate Producer in June 2012.

With just three rehearsal days, First Draft aims to create the ultimate 'scratch' performance. The process is fast and instinctive; a joyful leap into the possibilities of an idea. For the writer, deviser or adapter, First Draft affords the opportunity to see their idea at an early stage, to receive feedback, to invite industry professionals and review the work for further development on the London fringe and beyond. First Draft also takes one of these productions forward for a longer run each year. For the audience the result is an exciting, energetic and compelling piece of fresh work and a glimpse into the genesis of a theatrical idea.

First Draft has produced over 20 productions since 2010, including the annual short play festival, April Showers. The devised play A Date to Remember transferred to the Phoenix Artists' Bar in August 2011. 2013 will see the launch of First Draft's Young Writers' Scheme and the transfer of Brainville At Night by Alexander Moschos to the Jack Studio Theatre, which will be given a full production following it's sell out 'scratch' success in 2011.

Matthew is a freelance theatre director, Artistic Director of award nominated theatre company DogOrange and Resident/Artistic Director of First Draft Theatre. Matthew trained on the One Year Postgraduate Directing Course at Drama Studio London. His adaptation of Chekhov's short story Ward No.6 gained a Best Ensemble nomination at The Stage Awards for Acting Excellence and Time Out Critics Choice.

Recent directing projects include the DogOrange production of J.M. Barrie's Mary Rose (Riverside Studios), a revival of Howard Barker's The Possibilities (Tristan Bates), Scales of the Unexpected (Gilded Balloon), Ward No.6 (Camden People's Theatre - Time Out CRITICS CHOICE), The Provok'd Wife (DSL), A Date to Remember (Phoenix Artist Club), schools tours of Pinocchio and Snow White, the 21st anniversary revival of Two (Dispense Theatre), The Late Edwina Black (Sheringham Summer Rep), A Woman Alone (Jack Studio) and The Killing of Sister George (UK Tour).

Matthew assisted Alex Clifton and Robin Norton Hale on the 2012 Chester Performs season at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre. He has directed over 10 scratch productions for First Draft, two of which subsequently transferred to the London Fringe as full productions.
