Kadozuke Presents RICHARD III, Beginning Tonight

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Toronto experimental theatre company Kadozuke Kollektif, in partnership with Bad New Days, presents the world premiere of Richard III, The Pleasures of Violence, Artistic Director Tatiana Jennings' provocative and innovative multimedia reimagining of the William Shakespeare classic. Richard III previews tonight, September 9, opens Wednesday September 10 and runs through to September 28 at Zuke Studios, the company's storefront home in the Junction.

?A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, inaugurates its 2014-2015 REVOLUTIONary season with The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Directed by Timothy Douglas in his ANW debut, the show opens on Saturday, September 13 and runs through Saturday, November 22, 2014. This will be the third production of The Tempest for A Noise Within, which also mounted the play in 1993 and 2006; going against the grain in true revolutionary form, Prospero will be cast with a woman in the role, ANW favorite Deborah Strang.

According to the Daily Mail, director Lyndsey Turner and producer Sonia Friedman are in talks with National Theatre Live to film the Barbican Theatre's Summer 2015 production of HAMLET, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. The production would screen in theaters next year.

HMB Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM Begins Tonight

In their third season, the Half Moon Bay Shakespeare Company will present William Shakespeare's beloved comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Opening Labor Day weekend, the company has moved to downtown Half Moon Bay and will present the play in John L. Carter Memorial Park, located just north of the historic and controversial bridge on Main Street. 'The park is a perfect location for outdoor theatre and since the inception of the company, we have wanted to use it for our productions.' said Company Artistic Director and director of the play, Robert Pickett. 'We felt Midsummer would be the best show to open in the park because of the redwood trees and forest setting. The park is a perfect amphitheatre and set far enough away from the street.'

Tony Winner Darko Tresnjak to Helm Hartford Stage's HAMLET, Starring Zach Appelman, This Fall

For his first directing project since winning the 2014 Tony Award, Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak will helm Shakespeare's masterpiece, Hamlet, playing only four weeks, from October 16 to November 16, at Hartford Stage. Hamlet follows three popular Shakespearean productions in the last two years by Tresnjak: The Tempest, Twelfth Night, and last season's Macbeth.

As an art form, it seems that opera is having a hard time finding its footing with the current generation of young professionals. Increasingly, opera companies are scaling back as their current subscribers have no one to pass their torches on to. Despite this, dell'Arte Opera Ensemble is continuing their ambitious and altogether intimate 2014 summer season with a beautifully performed production of Giuseppe Verdi's MACBETH.
